Meet The Artist: Askold

By Ingram Team · On September 27, 2018

Askold (Vector Artist)

Askold’s Portfolio

This week we’re speaking to Askold, who has been contributing to Ingimage for almost 4 years. We chat about how long he has been an artist, what inspires him and how he comes to make his beautiful vectors.

1 – Can you tell us a little about your background and how you got into stock imagery?

Originally I’m not an illustrator, but a software engineer. More than 5 years ago, my partners and I decided to form a creative studio that is now known as Macrovector. Today we have one of the worlds best vector portfolios ranked among the top 2% of all types of portfolios at leading stock agencies (according to Stock Performer) with more than 50,000 of vectors and illustrations.

2 – Could you please tell us about your working process?

As we are a team we have well-established production process with different roles, specialization and automation of core processes. The main benefit of this is that it allows us to get what the market needs perfectly, as we have more resources at our disposal to bring the customer what they are asking for.

3 – Where do you get your inspiration from?

We get inspiration from our sales! If you do not analyze what happens to your content (specifically what people are asking for) – you will lose. Especially when it is so much. We developed our own big data tools to track sales, ratings, and keywords dynamics to help us make deliberate decisions what to do next and how to allocate available resources.

But you can’t think only in figures, so we have a series of conceptual illustrations on actual topics which you can see here: https://www.instagram.com/macrovector/

4 – Where do you see the future of stock photography going?

On this topic I’d like to quote Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland: “My dear, here we must run as fast as we can, just to stay in place. And if you wish to go anywhere you must run twice as fast as that.” 🙂

Competition is growing at a fast pace, content volumes are getting bigger and prices are falling. This is an alarming situation, which has not yet reached its peak. I belive that the market will split again, as it was during the emergence of microstocks. A lot of content will become free, the rest will become more expensive to keep its creators motivated. Low quality/simple content will be created by AI.

5 – How do you find working with us?

We’ve been working with Ingimage since 2014 and I can’t say a single bad word about the experience. Everything is perfect!
