Videos vs Images

By Ingram Team · On January 29, 2019

Video was hailed a huge Marketing trend in 2018, and it certainly doesn’t appear to be slowing in growth this year. Just think as far as the number of videos you see each day when scrolling through your social media feed and it may seem easy to assume that video has overtaken static imagery in the Marketing space. But, according to tests run by Hubspot, this is not the case. In short, if you put 2 ads up, each featuring a randomly selected video and a randomly selected image, the video would win on clicks (by a hefty 20%). However, if you put a video alongside an optimised image, the image wins.

What is an optimised image?

These are images edited and essentially branded, featuring copy and a call-to-action, to promote your business and guide users through the journey of a campaign. As usual, there is no hard and fast rule on what will work here. This is why running A/B tests and making sure that results are measurable is key to knowing what will work best for your brand.

But first…

Before you start optimising your images, you should spend some time getting to know what the most popular image styles are currently which range in composition, colour, subject and more. We’ve recently launched our image trend predictions for 2019 report to inspire you in this regard. Additional tips include subtle branding so rather than big, obvious logo’s think clever copy that hints at your brand. Also, always choose images that align with your brand and message.

Looking at these trends and the expanding popularity of both images and video content, visual influence in marketing is guaranteed to increase and evolve further. So, creating a marketing strategy that employs both forms of visual content will increase your chances of success exponentially.

FUN FACT: 85% of videos are played without sound on Facebook. Why is this relevant? Because it brings home the importance of great visual content over audio influences. Having a myriad of beautiful, strong colours supported by unique and powerful imagery is all the difference between users who click on your ad, and those who keep on scrolling. So, make this year your year. Join the current trend and give your prospects beautiful, meaningful content, and watch them turn into conversions.

Ingimage offers both image and video content so feel free to browse our content library at your leisure.
