Creating the Change: Why Climate Change Photography is Heating Up

By Ingram Team · On October 9, 2019

Climate change is the current hot button topic of news outlets around the world. With the introduction of new (and startling) news that the earth may be experiencing global warming at a much more accelerated rate than previously thought, there is much to be discussed and even more to be understood about the world we live in and the impact we have on it. We think this is an important feature facing society today, and want to help raise awareness of this crucial topic using what we do best – stock images.

Climate change can often have very negative or sinister implications due to the threat of global warming to our planet, and this is accurately reflected in the style of photography and vector art that we see today. However, it is worth noting that not all images are doom and gloom, and there are plenty that portray hope, optimism and growth that deserve a place in any collection.

Being aware of the threats to the environment that we face can lead to activism or a sense of duty telling us that we should stand up for what’s right (for more on activism and standing up for rights, see our Resistance lightbox). In these cases, we tend to focus on the hard-to-swallow truths of the climate today, such as cars, emissions, waste, and consumerism.

If commenting or presenting information related to the environment or climate change, it’s important to have relevant, up-to-date imagery to support the case being made. It’s true that a picture can say a thousand words, but when the topic behind the picture is one with such gravity as climate change, we feel that they can say a whole lot more.
