Photography is inherently a creative endeavor. It can be challenging to produce fresh and original creative content in this field on a consistent basis, especially if photography is your day job. Sometimes it can be clear what style of imagery the industry is asking for, and in those cases following trends will likely result in some profitable work. But in other less clear times, it can be difficult to identify what you should be photographing or, perhaps more importantly, how you should be photographing it. We at Ingimage are here to help you boost your photographic creativity with a few helpful tips.
- Collaborate
Working with others is one of the most talked about ways of boosting skill and creativity, and for good reason. No one person can have all the skills necessary to produce top-quality work in all fields, as a result working with people who have different skill sets to your own can introduce you to new ways of working, thinking, and approaching situations. This can lead to a boost in creativity as your approach scenarios with a new and invigored approach.
- Get Outdoors
If you are a photographer who primarily works on indoor or model photoshoots, having a change of scenery could lead to a new side of creativity in your work. Not only can the panoramic beauty of the great outdoors boost your inspiration and creativity, but it can also have the added benefit of reducing stress (which also leads to increased creativity, see what we did there?).
- Love the Work You Do
Just like the saying: ‘If you do what you love, you never have to work a day in your life’ creativity can come from simply loving what it is that you do. This applies not only to work and photographical pursuits, but also hobbies outside of professional life, such as playing an instrument or learning a language. Passion, love and creativity all meet at a crossroads.
- Get Feedback
This can often be unappealing in creative spaces, as people put a piece of themselves into the work they do, and as a result feedback can sometimes be perceived as harsh or taken personally. However, getting constructive feedback on your work can help you see things from another angle, and inspire a new breath of creativity into your portfolio.
- Break Out of the Routine
Doing the same thing, day after day, week after week can stifle creativity due to a lack of diversity. Mixing up your routine can help you think differently to how you’re used to, and encourage thought processes from a different angle, which (you guessed it) leads to more creativity.
Whatever you do, everyone benefits from a boost in creativity. But this applies more to creative spaces and professions such as photography, where having a ‘different’ view on things can make you stand out and boost your earnings.
